The Great Fire of Gaia

As the cities of man fall prey to the ever increasing flames consuming all before them like malevolent demon’s tongues, Zhindu , calling on the golden lifeforce of the tree-peoples council, rescues and restores Petamine, drawing her fully into the Other Dimension.

But her own essence, severely depleted in this selfless act, renders her almost immobile. Zhindu grimly hangs on, determined that Petamine, now whole, should not fall back through the nexus into Gaia’s flaming inferno.

Lorcan and En’kara look on, overjoyed at Petamine’s salvation, but despairing at the weakening of Zhindu, their leader. If she cannot free herself from this energy-sapping torpor, who will lead them?

The Great Fire of Gaia – 1 –

Gaia 1

He stared in horror as the red fire began to eat into her lower torso. He swore he could feel the unbearable heat, even though he was safe in the soft cooling breezes of the Other Dimension.

He looked helplessly to E’nkara..

“I cant save her!” said Lorcan

“But look, she’s nearly through!” shouted E’nkara.

They both gazed in horror as the head and shoulders of Petamine reared up in their dimension. Her screams of agony shattered the stillness there.

“She won’t….she can’t survive” gasped Lorcan, “not unless she’s intact.”

They stood, silent sentinels, witnessing the merciful cessation of Petamine’s screams. The portal closed, her ragged torso severed, and already returned to muted wood, a charred, accusatory finger pointing skywards.

“It will claim them all!” whispered E’nkara

“No!” exclaimed Lorcan, head bowed in concentration. “We must help them cross over, before the whole planet becomes a fireball.”

The purple and gold reflections in the cosmos, so beautiful in this, the Other Dimension, caused them to shudder, for they knew that they were but a window onto the fires ravaging Gaia, their lost home.

A Merry Christmas to All!!!

Posted in Christmas, Entertainment, Family, Life, Music, Poems, Religion, Thoughts, Writing with tags , , , , , on December 24, 2007 by kevmoore

I dont normally duplicate articles on my blogs if I can help it, but, well…its Christmas!! Here’s a song I wrote primarily for our Multi-author blog, Cafe Crem to wish them all a Merry Christmas.

I wanted to write a little about how the song came about here on the Muse though.

It took two days to conceive, write and record it. The words came very quickly. In fact the chorus, word for word, is exactly as it was the first time I ad-libbed it to get an idea of the tune I would use!  It has some quite nice countermelodies weaving in and out. The trumpet (to evoke a Salvation army feel) the recorder, and a gliding string line throughout. The piano was recorded in two separate parts owing to my lack of ability!

The early chiming bells are not so much Christmas as Tibetan, but the ones heralding the boy’s mention of Santa are genuine holiday sleigh bells.

The choir singing a snippet of “Hark the Herald angels” is me, multitracked 9 times.

The main vocal is a single track, but the final payoff line is accompanied by me doing a 2 part gospelly refrain.  Hope you like it, Merry Christmas!!!

The lyrics are below, should you choose to sing along!

A Shadow of his former self

Lies huddled in the snow

Arms outstretched and weary

Got nowhere else to go

A tide of people sweep by his hands

They’re unaware

Shameless now, he begs them

“A penny if you can”

Nobody cares

And he tries not to cry

Remembering Christmasses, gone by…

One stranger, drops to his knees

Looks into his eyes and says

“Mister won’t you please?

I’ll help you, what do you need?

Tell me, can I give you something for your pain?

The man looks back in wonder

And he’s rewarded with a smile

For the stranger stood before him

Is just a little child

Coins so bright and shiny, fall from his hands

Lit by the moon

“Here’s my pocket money, I don’t need it all

Santa’s coming soon”

And the man through his tears

Feels that the spirit of Christmas, is here.

The Winged Messenger

The winged messenger

I thought I´d share another of my poems inspired by Miki´s paintings with you today. It´s a rare thing, to have a Muse that fires your creativity. In almost every case, when I look into one of Mikis´paintings, I am transported to another world, and feel the need to write about it. Here is one of the results.

The Winged Messenger

Solitary, the winged messenger precedes
The fateful gathering of the seas
As water does the planet´s will
An ancient prophecy fulfilled

The town, oblivious, sleeps till dawn
The cry of warning, now forlorn,
is lost upon the boiling foam
that threatens every house and home

Scant moments of tranquility remained
Now stolen by the sea
And soon that lovely bird will soar
O´er cities that exist no more

Yeah, I know…..I set this blog up a zillion lifetimes ago, and what have I posted? Yep, that’s right. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. But you know what? All good things come to those who wait, or should that be “those who waitress?…..” well, whatever, but I thought, being as I slip and slide through the wordpress blogosphere dropping a word of wisdom or wit here, a snide comment there, I thought it only fair to have a little something for people to latch onto when they click on my name. Indeed, dear reader, if you would click on my website link HERE, I can show you delights you had only dreamed of in the field of music and art!! And it should go some way to excusing my tardiness in actually getting this blog up and (I hesitate to say running) ….ambling. By way of an apology, I’m going to be publishing the occasional short story on here for your delectation. Enjoy!
